After more than two months of competition, eight weekly winners have been chosen for the Big Billy’s Burger Joint Build a Burger Contest.
On Saturday, celebrity judges will name the “best burger” of the eight finalists. The Winners Circle Party will start at 6 p.m. at Big Billy’s Burger Joint, 5070 International Blvd. in North Charleston. There will be a food buffet, live music and drink specials.
The winner will receive $500 and their burger will be added to menu specials.
The judges include local radio personalities Tanya Brown and Mike the Guy, Chef Robert Carter, former television personality Ryan Nelson and Charleston County Council Vice Chairman Elliott Summey.
The contest includes burgers made of beef, turkey, black bean or chicken as well as a full list of toppings, cheese and condiments. The weekly winners were Lou Salvino, Valerie Salvino, Cara Merry, Mandy Kurowski, Scott Cundiff, Jessica Porcelli, Jarrod Fritz and Evelyn Finch.
High Cotton is blending the brews from local brewery Westbrook with dishes from executive chef Joe Palma for a beer lunch at noon Feb. 2 at High Cotton, 199 East Bay St. in Charleston. Palma will create a three-course menu, including shrimp ceviche; arugula salad with apples, hazelnuts and fig preserves; smoked duck confit banh mi; and ginger panna cotta.
Westbrook founder and CEO Edward Westbrook along with Casey Lee of Advintage Distributors will be on hand with information about the featured brews and the brewing process. High Cotton regularly has a Westbrook beer on draft — currently the India Pale Ale IPA.
The lunch is $35 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required; call 843-724-3815.
