A gourmet food store from North Carolina recently announced plans to open a location in Mount Pleasant in summer 2013.
Southern Season, known for its specialty food, wine, beer and kitchen accessories, will open its retail location off Coleman Boulevard at the former Food Lion site in Brookgreen Town Center.
The store will be across from The Boulevard, a new mixed-use development owned by The Beach Co. that will feature upscale urban residential apartments, street-level retail and restaurants.
The Mount Pleasant location is expected to bring 88 jobs. During seasonal peaks, as many as 300 jobs could be created by the store.
Southern Season is looking at eight other markets across the Southeast to open additional retail locations, but a spokeswoman for the company said no leases have been signed in those areas. The Mount Pleasant location will be the company’s second store.
Southern Season has built a national presence through its online sales, according to a news release.
Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails called the new location a “coup for Mount Pleasant and for the ongoing revitalization of Coleman Boulevard.”
“Southern Season — building on its national reputation for serving extraordinary food, wine, gifts and food education — will bring a destination experience for local foodies and infuse Coleman with the sense of place and community that we are promoting,” he added.
