Trident Health’s Summerville and Trident medical centers received a three-year accreditation in echocardiography by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.

The accreditation comes in the area of adult transesophageal and adult transthoracic echocardiography. These procedures help doctors detect heart disorders and diseases early, and the skill of the sonographers performing the exams and equipment used play a role in determining the accuracy of the procedure.

A panel of experts completed a review of Trident Health’s operations and technical components before awarding the accreditation. The accreditation is a voluntary process a hospital or health system can undergo.

Trident Medical Center in Charleston also received reaccreditation as a Level III trauma center. That designation came after meeting more than 150 criteria involving quality, patient outcomes, education and injury prevention. The site survey was conducted by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s department of EMS and trauma services.
