Lowcountry firm Blackbaud Inc. delayed the release of its third-quarter earnings in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
The call had been scheduled for 5 p.m. today, but due to the closure of the New York Stock Exchange, the call has been postponed until Thursday morning.
“The stock markets are closed through today and possibly tomorrow,” said Melanie Mathos, spokeswoman for the company. “The (earnings) call is primarily analyst focused. If they aren’t working, we wanted to make sure they had a chance to be on the call.”
The last weather-related closure of the stock market was back in 1985 — also because of a hurricane. Hurricane Gloria closed the market on Sept. 27, 1985.
The stock exchange has only closed because of weather conditions five times since 1885, according to the exchange’s data.
Blackbaud also has employees in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Va., and Cambridge, Mass. Those offices were shut down because of the weather, Mathos said.
