The state’s top 20 fastest-growing companies in both large and small business categories were recognized Thursday during the first annual statewide Roaring 20s event, hosted by SC Biz News.
The top-ranked companies honored were Yeargin Potter Shackelford Construction, in the large company category, and Marabu North America, in the small company category.
Yeargin Potter Shackelford is a privately held construction services company operating primarily in the Southeastern United States. Since 1919, the Greenville company has undertaken projects for hundreds of institutions, corporations, manufacturers and businesses. The company provides services ranging from site selection and financing assistance through design, construction and facility operating activities.
North Charleston-based Marabu North America provides specialty inks and liquid coatings throughout the United States, Canada and Central America. The company, founded in 2007, became a subsidiary of its German parent company following a merger with Clearstar Coatings and Autoroll Print Technologies.
Winners were chosen and ranked according to growth and revenue. The nominated companies were all headquartered in South Carolina and for-profit entities. Company size was determined by gross revenue —small, $10 million and under; and large, more than $10 million. Small companies must have had revenues of at least $500,000 each year for 2009, 2010 and 2011.
A formula was used that awarded points based on both dollar and percentage increases in revenue generated from South Carolina operations from 2010 to 2011. This formula leveled the playing field, SC Biz News said, between smaller and larger companies within both the small and large category.
