The Art Institute of Charleston is now offering a bachelor’s degree in fashion design.

The curriculum will focus on the principles of the fashion industry as well as business practices centering on marketing and client relations, according to a news release.

The 180-hour degree program will begin in 2013.

“With today’s interest in individually unique clothing and styling, we continue to see a high level of interest in the field of fashion,” said Newton Myvett, president of The Art Institute of Charleston. “We are excited to introduce a program that offers solid skills along with creative development.”

The program is designed to help students gain entry-level positions in the fashion industry, the school said.

According to 2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics figures, there were around 20,000 jobs in the fashion industry. The industry is expected to have little to no change from 2010 to 2020.
