Amazon said Tuesday it will hire 50,000 seasonal workers at its fulfillment centers during the holiday season.
The online retailer opened distribution centers in Spartanburg and Lexington counties this year. Local hiring figures for the holiday season were unavailable.
At its 1.25 million-square-foot Midlands facility, Amazon ships smaller boxes. At the 1 million-square-foot hub in the Upstate, the retailer ships larger items like kayaks and lawnmowers.
The 50,000 jobs created this holiday season will be spread across Amazon’s 40 fulfillment centers in the United States, the company said.
“Temporary associates play a critical role in meeting increased customer demand during the holiday season, and we expect thousands of temporary associates will stay on in full-time positions,” said Dave Clark, vice president of global customer fulfillment, in a news release.
