PrintPrintMake-A-Wish South Carolina has partnered with the town of Mount Pleasant for Wine, Brew and Wishes Too Saturday night at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. Proceeds will be used to grant wishes to Lowcountry children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The eighth annual Fur Ball benefiting Pet Helpers will be 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Marriott Hotel, 170 Lockwood Blvd. in Charleston. Tickets are $150 and include food, drink and entertainment. Tickets are available at www.pethelpersfurball.com or at Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road. Dance FX: The Charleston Dance Project will provide entertainment and there will be silent and live auctions. Pet Helpers is a private nonprofit organization aimed at saving the lives of animals throughout the Lowcountry. The 2011 Fur Ball raised more than $150,000.
HALOS is hosting an oyster roast to raise funds to support programs for child victims of abuse and neglect. The event is 4 p.m. Sunday at Cottage on the Creek in Mount Pleasant. Tickets are $25 each; includes food, drinks and games. Children under 10 are admitted free. Purchase tickets online or at the door.
The second annual Super Scary SUP Race on Oct. 27 will benefit Pet Helpers and the Emerson Rose Heart Foundation. The event is hosted by Charleston SUP Safaris on Folly Beach. Visit www.charlestonsupsafaris.com to register or call 843-817-SUPS.

Todd Gallati, CEO of Trident Health, and Lou Caputo, CEO of Summerville Medical Center, will serve as co-chairs for the 2013 March for Babies in Charleston. They have pledged a commitment to help reach the event goal of $450,000, which will support March of Dimes research and community programs. March for Babies will be April 27 at Cannon Park in Charleston.
The March of Dimes funds research to find the answers to premature birth and provides comfort and information to families who are affected. In Charleston, March for Babies is sponsored by Trident Health, Robert Bosch, MUSC Children’s Hospital, Comcast, Publix Supermarkets and Clear Channel Communications.
Eco Deco will host the Pink Party from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday to highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness, as well as raise funds for MUSC Hollings Cancer Center breast cancer research.
The party will feature cocktails served by Icebox and gourmet bites provided by Eurasia, in addition to Eco Deco’s featured local interior designers on the showroom’s Wall of Colors. A representative from Hollings Cancer Center will speak on breast cancer treatment and research in the local community. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Eco Deco is located in Patriots Plaza, 911 Houston Northcutt Blvd. in Mount Pleasant.
Clips of Faith, New Belgium Brewing’s traveling beer and film festival, raised $5,700 at its Charleston stop on Sept. 26. About 850 people came out to Marion Square to enjoy the films and raise funds for Charleston Moves, a local organization that encourages mobility by bicycle and on foot for the improved health and well-being of greater Charleston. Charleston Moves plans to use the funds in its continuing effort to make the 33-mile-long Battery2Beach Route a reality.

On Oct. 3, teacher Becky Hill of Cane Bay Elementary was surprised with $2,500 of supplies provided by OfficeMax as part of its A Day Made Better program. Hill is the only teacher in the tri-county region to receive this donation. Principal Diane White nominated Hill because of her dedication to her students and for her efforts as a mentor of fellow teachers.
St. Paul’s Academy, an independent school in Hollywood, is hosting its annual fundraiser Halloween Extravaganza at 6 p.m. Saturday as well as Oct. 19-20. The event will feature tastings of more than 100 wines from around the world, craft beer from six local and regional breweries, as well as Lowcountry cuisine, a silent auction and live music by Yee Haw Junction. The St. James Foundation hosts Deona Smith, CEO and editor of Living Roots magazine, for a discussion Friday at St. James Presbyterian Church, 1314 Secessionville Road on James Island. Living Roots magazine celebrates the culture, history and lifestyle of the African-American community. Smith will discuss how she started the magazine and how it's run. The event is free and open to the public. This community outreach project is a part of the St. James Foundation’s Lifelong Learning Series.
The 32nd annual Southern Living Taste of Charleston, put on by the Charleston Restaurant Association, provided help for some local charities. Proceeds from the events benefited Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Hospitality Heroes and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center.

Pet Helpers “pumpkins” (orange tabby cats and kittens) are $50 to adopt and will be available for adoption at the Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch in Mount Pleasant from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. All pumpkin kittens are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and come with food, litter box, litter, litter scoop, toys, catnip, treats and one month of pet health insurance. This same adoption special runs through the end of October at Pet Helpers Adoption Center, 1447 Folly Road.
