After a performance on the Opry stage, Rucker was invited to become a member by fellow musician Brad Paisley. Paisley has been a member of the Opry since 2001.

Rucker agreed to answer questions from fans after performing his set, at which time Paisley took the microphone to ask him two questions: “Are you still the worst poker player in the world?” and “Would you like to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry?”

The country star repeatedly said “wow” in shock and accepted the invitation.

“We are extremely excited that Darius will be joining our Opry family,” said Pete Fisher, Opry vice president and general manager. “He’s forged an incredible, diverse musical path which has led today to the top of the country charts.

“It’s been clear from the moment Darius first stepped on our stage in 2008 in what high regard he holds the Grand Ole Opry and similarly how much Opry fans love Darius’ music.”

Rucker will become an official member Oct. 16, and the show will be aired live on Great American Country.
