Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina is hosting Smoke on the Harbor BBQ Throwdown, a Southern Barbecue Network event benefiting the Lowcountry Food Bank. The barbecue competition is set for Nov. 16-18 at the Lookout Pavilion. Smoke on the Harbor is open to professional and amateur barbecue chefs who are looking to compete in three meat categories, including chicken wings, pork butts and ribs, for a total of $6,000 in prize money. The event is open to the public and attendees will have a chance to sample some of the barbecue creations. Cost of entry for teams is $175 by Oct. 16; registration increases to $225 after Oct. 17.
Nonperishable food items will be accepted throughout the weekend. Guests who donate five canned goods will receive $5 off admission.
Leslie Haywood, founder and president of Charmed Life Products and inventor of Grill Charms, will be the ambassador of barbecue and master of ceremonies. Haywood and her product have appeared on national TV, including The Today Show, Shark Tank and The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch.
