Occupancy and room rates for Charleston-area hotels were up in August, according to figures released by the College of Charleston’s Office of Tourism Analysis.
Peninsula hotels led all submarkets with an occupancy rate of 80.4% and an average daily room rate of $159.70.
West Ashley hotels saw the biggest change in room prices, growing 18.4% from August 2011, while East Cooper hotels posted the biggest increase in occupancy, gaining 10.1%.
“The PGA Championship certainly played a big role in this strong performance, but the entire month showed strength,” said Perrin Lawson, deputy director of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, in an email. “This resulted in an increase in room nights sold of 7.9%, which equates to approximately 23,800 more room nights sold compared to August 2011.”
