An engineering consultant is opening an office in North Charleston, the company announced Tuesday.

Vaughn & Melton Consulting Engineers provides engineering and surveying services throughout the Southeast.

“When everyone is selling gloom and despair, we are certainly happy to report that our presence and resolve in South Carolina is stronger than ever,” said DeWayne Brown, regional vice president for Vaughn & Melton, in a news release. “South Carolina has been a key part of V&M’s strategic growth plan for more than 40 years, and this new office location creates a number of exciting opportunities for us.”

The consultant’s customers include local governments, private developers, utility districts and industrial boards, and Vaughn & Melton provides site development, surveying and construction inspection. It designs water and wastewater systems, highways, streets and bridges.

The company has offices in Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina. Charleston is its second location in South Carolina; Vaughn & Melton also has an office in Spartanburg.
