Hosted by the Charleston Restaurant Association, Charleston Restaurant Week kicks off Wednesday and runs through Sept. 16 with more than 100 area restaurants offering special pricing. Westbrook Brewing Co. and Christophe Artisan Chocolatier-Patissier are hosting a chocolate and beer pairing workshop. Enjoy six beer and chocolate combinations at Westbrook's tasting room in Mount Pleasant from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 22. For $20, participants get a souvenir tasting glass and will be led through the tasting process by Christophe Paume and Edward Westbrook.
Paume is a third-generation French chocolatier and owner of Christophe Artisan Chocolatier-Patissier. Edward and Morgan Westbrook established Westbrook Brewing Co. in 2010.

City of Charleston Fire Chief Karen E. Brack will speak at the Small Business Lunch at Halls Thursday at Halls Chophouse, 434 King St. in Charleston. Brack took over the Charleston Fire Department last month. With more than 30 years of firefighting experience, she comes to Charleston from Eugene, Ore., where she was the deputy chief of shift operations. Lunch is $28, which includes parking and a three-course meal by Halls Executive Chef Matthew Niessner. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is at noon.
