Wells Fargo awarded the South Carolina Technical College System a $325,000 grant to support programs that promote local workforce development and job creation.
Trident Technical College received the largest sum of money, having been allocated $100,000. Midlands Technical College received $75,000 and Greenville Technical College received $50,000.
Other colleges to receive funding include Florence-Darlington Technical College, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Spartanburg Community College, Piedmont Technical College, Tri-County Technical College, Central Carolina Technical College and Northeastern Technical College.
“South Carolina’s economy continues to recover from the lingering effects of the past recession,” said Rick Redden, S.C. president for Wells Fargo. “We believe workforce development and job creation are key to accelerating economic growth.”
Technical colleges play a critical role in driving workforce development, Redden added.
The technical college system is training workers to fill jobs that require more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree.
“South Carolinians rely now more than ever on the S.C. Technical College System to learn new skills and enhance their overall employability. A technical college education offers students the lowest tuition cost available and the greatest flexibility,” said Darrel Staat, president of the S.C. Technical College System. "The tremendous generosity of Wells Fargo with this grant will assist the colleges in providing our students with an even better opportunity for success.”
