Bill Murray already crashes here

Check out the video of Bill Murray tooling around Charleston playing a snaredrum and (occasionally) a trashcan lid during Emily Hearn’s recent pop tune.

Celebrities tend to like Charleston because we take them for granted. We don’t go all crazy (though some folks from off tend to) when we see someone eating at Magnolias or even enjoying the river otters at the S.C. Aquarium.

That’s why we were bemused (while wearing our monocle and smoking jacket) by the excitement Zombieland funnyman Bill Murray generated when the humor site Super Official News announced that he was going to do a tour of America to crash some parties and then later crash on some couches. (If you’ve seen it, don’t get spastic because it’s fake.)

The purported criterion for getting a visit by Murray is to put up a banner (sheets apparently are encouraged) announcing that you want him to crash at your house the night of the party, which must include alcohol and karaoke. The banner must say in gigantic bold letters “BILL MURRAY CAN CRASH HERE!”

We see the co-owner of the Charleston RiverDogs occasionally tooling around Mount Pleasant or shopping (we won’t tell you where) in some of our favorite spots. We know that Murray is often referred to as a “part-time” resident of Charleston, but this whole faux-junket puts that notion to rest.

We found it most ingratiating that Charleston was not to be found on the list of crash sites. That’s high praise coming from someone spoofing someone of Mr. Murray’s stature. They think that he thinks of this place as home, and not a place to crash. He’s officially a Charlestonian. You read it here first. He might be from off, but that doesn’t mean we can’t ignore him.
