Mount Pleasant-based Choate Construction Co. was selected as the General Contractor of the Year for 2011-2012 by the American Subcontractors Association of the Carolinas, or ASAC, Charleston chapter.
Choate was selected from a field of three finalists.
Finalists were judged on overall treatment of subcontractors and suppliers; efficient execution of projects; commitment to safety; fair and timely award of contracts and purchase orders; and expeditious and accurate disbursements to subcontractors and suppliers.
“We’re extremely honored to have been selected by the subcontracting community for this award. We wholeheartedly recognize our success and reputation has been driven by the strong and trusting partnerships we have maintained with local subcontractors and suppliers," said Mike Hampton, manager for Choate Construction's South Carolina division.
One of Choate's superintendents, Scott Willett, was also awarded runner-up status for Superintendent of the Year. Willett is a 24-year veteran of the construction industry and is currently overseeing the construction of Clemson University’s wind turbine drivetrain test facility in North Charleston.
