Lowcountry Local First is challenging Charlestonians to show mom they care about her and the community by purchasing a Mother’s Day gift from a local business.

“The choice to buy local for Mother's Day is easy, and the benefits for our community are endless,” said Kate Gebler, membership manager of Lowcountry Local First. “Buying from your friends and neighbors, supports job creation, is an investment in our community, keeps Charleston unique and encourages local prosperity.”

Shoppers can treat their mothers to a night of cooking with Made from Scratch Delivery’s Mother’s Day menu. Or, they can send a dozen cookies from Charleston. Book a relaxing day through Urban Nirvana. They can purchase a freshwater pearl set from Croghan’s Jewel Box for $99. The Mount Pleasant Towne Centre Farmers Market opens May 19. It is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through July 14 on Theatre Drive. Farmers include Freeman Produce and Owl’s Nest Plantation with farm-grown produce selections. Specialty vendors will be preparing Lowcountry stew, Philippine egg rolls, sweets, hand-dyed fabrics, accessories and more. New vendors will be added weekly. Wando High School musicians and local acoustic bands will perform, and jump castles will be provided for kids. Opening weekend features a giveaway of sustainable tote bags.
