Gibbison also serves as director of GSU’s School of Economic Development in the College of Business Administration. He earned a Ph.D. in economics in 1998 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Gibbison also holds a master’s in agricultural economics and a bachelor’s in economics. He has been with Georgia Southern since August 2002, the college said in a news release.
At the North Campus, Gibbison will be responsible for academic program development aimed at meeting the educational needs of traditional and non-traditional students. The college said a new adult degree completion program called the bachelor of professional studies is currently under development and would be offered at CofC North.
“The bachelor of professional studies presents a unique opportunity for the College of Charleston to offer access to its excellent educational tradition to a different group of learners,” Gibbison said.
Gibbison said he plans to forge new partnerships in the community “while putting people at the forefront of economic development.”
“Dr. Gibbison has exactly the right combination of academic leadership experience, business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit to ensure the rapid development of our credit and non-credit course and degree offerings at the North Campus,” provost George Hynd said.
