Tommy Baker, owner and president of Baker Motor Co., said today that the company completed the purchase of Sentry Buick GMC on Savannah Highway in Charleston. The company purchased Miller Cadillac in November in Mount Pleasant and rebranded the business Baker Cadillac.

“We are in an acquisition mode, always looking for an opportunity to grow here in Charleston,” Baker said in a news release.

Baker is relocating Baker Cadillac from Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant to the Buick GMC dealership on Savannah Highway. Baker Buick GMC Cadillac officially opened this week, the company said.

“Combining the Buick GMC and Cadillac franchises together make a powerful combination,” Baker said. “Having three out of the four GM franchises under one roof is a great opportunity for Baker Motor Co.”

The latest acquisition includes six acres of real estate and a 63,000 square-foot facility on Savannah Highway.

Baker has plans for a new building to be constructed in the front of the original building on Savannah Highway, including one showroom for Buick/GMC and one for Cadillac. The expansion adds 10,000 square feet to the dealership and is expected to be completed by December.

“We plan to break ground on our new showrooms within a couple of months,” Baker said. “Our goal is to have the most impressive GM facility in this marketplace.”
