Former congressman Gresham Barrett has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP's government relations group and will be based in the firm's Washington, D.C. and Greenville offices.

Barrett served in the U.S. House, representing South Carolina's 3rd District from 2003-2011. Before that, he served in the S.C. House of Representatives from the 1st District from 1996-2002.
"Gresham served on key committees and subcommittees in Washington and has the knowledge and experience that will certainly be a benefit to our clients," said managing partner Jim Lehman.
The firm's government relations group also includes former congressmen Ron Klink, who represented the 4th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, and Alan Mollohan, who represented West Virginia’s 1st Congressional District.
Dick Riley, former S.C. governor and former U.S. secretary of education; David Wilkins, former ambassador to Canada; and Phil Lader, a former ambassador to Britain, also serve at the firm.
Nelson Mullins’ government relations practice represents clients before federal, state and local legislative, and regulatory and administrative agencies, including extensive lobbying practices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Boston, Columbia and Raleigh, N.C.
A native of Westminster, S.C., Barrett earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The Citadel in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army from 1983-1987 and attained the rank of captain in field artillery. Barrett is also a businessman who formerly ran Barrett's Furniture Store.
