The engineering and manufacturing firm that was founded in 1995 does work for the defense industry as well as commercial customers. UEC owner Rebecca Ufkes said Boeing executives visited the company’s location in Hanahan recently and let UEC know it had been selected for the program.

The mentoring program, which Boeing uses across its operations, encourages small businesses to expand their reach and do business globally, a Boeing spokesperson has said.

UEC Electronics is AS9100 registered, a requirement of the Boeing program, and has recently expanded its ground and test system capabilities to support avionic and aerospace applications, the company said.

The company is working with Boeing South Carolina as well as Boeing Defense Space & Security in Huntington Beach, Calif. Ufkes said the mentoring program gives her company an entry point to doing business with an array of companies and top-tier suppliers for the aerospace industry.

Previously, Boeing has selected three other companies based in South Carolina for its mentoring program, including ADEX Machining Technologies of Greenville, Hartsville-based JBE Inc. and Cowpens-based J.I.T. Manufacturing Inc.
