The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is celebrating its eighth birthday, which is Wednesday, by offering $10 off a family membership from Tuesday through Friday next week.
Memberships must be purchased at the museum’s front desk. Membership includes admission to the museum, after-hours appreciation parties, discounted tickets to museum events, discounts at local restaurants and businesses, and admission to the museum’s birthday party on Sept. 23.
Since opening in 2003, the museum has reached more than 750,000 children and their families with nine hands-on, interactive exhibits. The museum also provides field trips to Title I schools, with more than 1,000 students participating annually, and extended hours on Sunday for children with special needs to visit.

Kohl’s Department Stores is opening a new location at 2245 Ashley Crossing Drive in Charleston on Sept. 28. The store expects the opening will create about 130 jobs locally.
The opening marks the 14th Kohl’s in South Carolina. The retailer also has locations in Mount Pleasant and Summerville.
Phillip Daniels will be district manager for the new Kohl’s location.
All Kohl’s stores opening in the fall will include updated checkout stations; upgraded fitting rooms, including lounges in the misses and juniors fitting rooms; more in-store kiosks and electronic signs throughout the store.
The West Ashley store also will include green attributes such as recycling of construction materials; occupancy sensor lighting in stock rooms, fitting rooms, break rooms and offices; energy management systems for heating and cooling; and recycling of cardboard boxes, hangers and packaging.

The fitting rooms include floral wall coverings, ottomans, plush carpeting and a proprietary lighting system with backlit mirrors. An adjacent lounge area features an oversized touch screen monitor with access to anntaylor.com, to allow customers to order any items that the store doesn’t carry, such as additional styles, more shoes, petite and tall sizes, or wedding and event clothing.
