U.S. News & World Report rated the Medical University of South Carolina the best hospital in the Lowcountry and recognized 13 of its treatment programs in the publication’s hospital rankings.
MUSC announced the recognition in a news release Tuesday.
The publication ranked MUSC nationally for its treatment of ears, nose and throat ailments (41st) and gastroenterology (36th); and, among children’s hospitals, it was ranked for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery (17th). The hospital also was named a Nationally Ranked Hospital.
U.S. News and World Report rated the hospital as high-performing for treatment in these areas:
- Cancer
- Cardiology and heart surgery
- Geriatrics
- Gynecology
- Nephrology
- Neurology and neurosurgery
- Orthopedics
- Psychiatry
- Pulmonology
- Rheumatology
- Urology
“We are pleased that the outstanding care delivered by our faculty and staff is garnering such national attention,” said Dr. Ray Greenberg, president of MUSC. “All South Carolinians can depend on the high quality of services being delivered at our hospital and through graduates of our training programs throughout the state.”
U.S. News & World Report reviewed data from nearly 5,000 hospitals and selected 152 of them for national rankings. The publication determined the rankings with data from reputation, death rates, patient safety, nursing services and patient services, among other criteria.
