SCRA’s SC Launch presented a big check to its most recent portfolio company, GreenWizard Inc., during an SC Launch networking reception Thursday.

The SC Launch program, which has attracted more than $104 million in add-on, private equity investment funding in South Carolina knowledge-based, startup companies, invested $200,000 in the Charleston-based company.

“We are delighted to have GreenWizard as our newest portfolio company, and we look forward to their continued success,” said Dave McNamara, SC Launch executive director. 

“This company joins many others as a strong member of South Carolina’s knowledge economy,” said Bill Mahoney, SCRA CEO. “Not only is GreenWizard contributing to our environmental well-being, but also to our economic strength as a technology-based company creating quality jobs in South Carolina.”

GreenWizard offers a Web-based software solution for architects, engineers and contractors to search, compare, buy and document green building materials from thousands of manufacturers.

With the GreenWizard workflow platform, users are able to research green and sustainable building products by each particular green attribute or search for products based on their multiple attributes, which is integral in obtaining higher Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design building scores. As products are researched, they can be modeled against one another or the project in aggregate, in order to determine the best mix of materials.

The company also formed an alliance with the U.S. Green Building Council, allowing for the seamless submission and population of all materials-related documentation. CEO Adam Bernholz founded GreenWizard after beginning the research and evaluation process for materials related to his own net-zero home near Charleston.

“While looking to build a net-zero home, I realized the profound market pain associated with researching, procuring, and documenting green building products,” Bernholz said. “I founded GreenWizard to address this growing market and assist in the sales and distribution of green building products. The support of SC Launch will certainly help GreenWizard to continue to grow.”
