Charleston Chamber establishes 2011 legislative priorities

Business growth and work force development will be among the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s chief priorities during the 2011 legislative session, the civic group announced this week.

Other areas of focus for the chamber include:

  • Environment and energy
  • Health care
  • Hospitality
  • Military base and federal facilities retention and expansion
  • Business regulation
  • Transportation and infrastructure standards

Charleston chamber hires Nexsen Pruet to lobby state lawmakers

As part of its efforts, the chamber has retained the Nexsen Pruet law firm to represent it when the General Assembly convenes again in January.

Save the date
The chamber will host a legislative reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 20 at the S.C. Aquarium, 100 Aquarium Wharf.

State and federal legislators, council members and Charleston Mayor Joe Riley will be in attendance at the informal networking event.

There will also be a special presentation honoring outgoing U.S. Congressman Henry Brown.

Tickets for the event are $45 for members and $65 for nonmembers.
