Clemson University will stream Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony live on the Internet for the wind turbine drivetrain testing facility at the Clemson University Restoration Institute.
Speakers at the event will include Clemson University President James F. Barker; David H. Wilkins, chairman of the board of trustees; and John Kelly, executive director of the Restoration Institute and Clemson vice president for economic development.
Guest speakers will include U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, Congressman Jim Clyburn and North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey.
On Nov. 23, 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy awarded the Restoration Institute and its partners a $45 million grant, which was combined with $53 million in matching funds, to build and operate a large-scale wind turbine drivetrain testing facility at the institute’s research campus on the former Navy base in North Charleston.
