Cheeseburger in Paradise
The web was abuzz yesterday with tales of a Krispy Kreme cheeseburger. The ups and downs of the Southern-born corporate chain have been well-documented, with its hugely successful IPO, which resulted in “HOT DOUGHNUTS NOW” neon signs on streetcorner storefronts across the globe, and perhaps a little too soon. Could this be the comeback product? ... apparently the corporate entity isn’t saying either way.

The story began not in Winston-Salem, N.C., but at the Wisconsin State Fair, where the awful-sounding delicacy won tons of folks over. ... tons.

The food oddity shot to the No. 1 spot on Yahoo!’s most-searched trends with headlines like:

(Toronto Star)

(York Daily Record, which apparently plays everything straight)

It even became a huge topic on Twitter, as you can see here.

Would you eat a Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger?

So of course we’re doing an instant poll, at left. With the Coastal Carolina Fair coming up in October would you buy a cheeseburger sandwiched between a Krispy Kreme doughnut?

'Scuse us while we chew on that one...

Hootie and the Doughnuts
This pot does not contain doughnuts.Speaking of doughnuts, this time the Dunkin’ variety, helped feed the volunteers at Hootie’s “Back to School Basics” last week while they helped students at the high-poverty schools Sanders Clyde, James Simmons, Chicora and Mary Ford Elementary prepare for school.

Charleston-area Dunkin’ Donuts stores brought coffee, doughnuts, bagels, bagel twists, muffin and munchkins to the 75 people who were assisting with the effort at Burke High School.

They certainly needed the sugar-infused carbs since they were wrangling almost 1,300 elementary school kids.

They gave them haircuts, dental exams, eye exams, backpacks, shoes, t-shirts, uniforms and other basic school supplies.

And like everything in Charleston, it’s all about who you know.

“As a Charleston resident, Hootie & the Blowfish’s lead singer, Darius Rucker, is a regular patron of our Coleman Boulevard location, and we are very excited to be a part of a local patron’s fantastic program that helps so many families and children in the Charleston area,” said George Ross, CEO of Coastal Franchising, owner of nine Charleston-area Dunkin’ Donuts locations.

However it happened, good job. Deserving kids, and a deserving effort.
