Behr Heat Transfer Systems, a manufacturer of automotive air conditioning and engine cooling systems, plans to expand its local product portfolio and invest $3 million at its North Charleston manufacturing plant, state and local officials announced today.
The company will manufacture two new products — exhaust gas recirculation systems and charge air coolers — which a Behr official said are key to improving automotive fuel efficiency.
The move is expected to create more than 70 new jobs over several years, according to an announcement from the S.C. Department of Commerce, Charleston County and the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.
“We are pleased to further solidify our presence in Charleston, and the introduction of two new products is an important step in our growth,” said Peter Birk, plant manager for Behr Heat Transfer Systems.
The company is hiring for temporary positions now and will hire for permanent positions later. To apply, contact MAU Inc. at 843-767-7610 or at 5101 Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston.
Behr Heat Transfer Systems Inc. is a subsidiary of Behr GmbH & Co. KG of Stuttgart, Germany. The company’s local facility is located at 4500 Leeds Ave.
“Behr Heat Transfer Systems has been an important part of our state’s automotive industry for a number of years, and we are pleased to see them grow in South Carolina,” said Joe Taylor, S.C. Secretary of Commerce.
