| Leigh Ann Garrett Age: 29 Events coordinator, Center for Women • Organizes and coordinates the center’s larger-scale events, as well as community partnered events; coordinates the counseling program and co-coordinates a job counseling program. Garrett organizes more than 10 empowerment groups each year and also co-manages in-office volunteers and interns, as well as event volunteers. Community involvement • Brownie Girl Scout troop leader in Mount Pleasant. • Advisory board member, Students in Free Enterprise, College of Charleston. • Board member, Charleston County Junior Miss Scholarship Program. • Member, Charleston Young Professionals. • Member, Women@Work. What made you select your chosen profession? I adored women’s studies classes at the College of Charleston, so when it was time to choose an internship and I saw Center for Women listed as an option, it seemed like a natural fit. I love to work with people, and the nonprofit sector, work specifically designed to help advance women, seemed wonderful. Seven years later and still here, I’d say it was a great fit! What is your professional goal? To challenge myself to take on new things, but at the same time know my strengths and weaknesses. Some things I am happy to do and good at them, others I will enlist some help and know when to call on others! Person you would like to meet: Our little girl, Mollie Bess Garrett, due June 26, 2010.
