Digital advertising company Levelwing Media was named the fastest-growing company in the Charleston area before a packed house of business and community leaders Thursday night.
The announcement was made at the Roaring 20, an annual event organized by the Charleston Regional Business Journal and other sponsors. This year’s event drew hundreds of people to the Lockwood Marriott on the banks of the Ashley River.
Chris William, host of the syndicated PBS show Carolina Business Review, which airs each Sunday, introduced sponsors and winners as the countdown began.
Three-time Roaring 20 winner Force Protection came in the No. 2 spot this year, extending a strong run of consecutive years for the North Charleston company that manufactures mine-resistant armored vehicles.
To qualify for the Roaring 20, companies were nominated and then qualified and ranked according to growth and revenue. Companies had to be headquartered in the tri-county area and be for-profit entities with gross revenue of more than $500,000 in each of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 fiscal years.
A formula that awarded points based on dollar and percentage increases in revenue for 2007-2008 was used to level the playing field and allow for recognition of small and large companies.
The Dixon Hughes accounting firm vetted the entries and calculated the Roaring 20 winners.
