Local business executives are invited to shadow principals in the Charleston County School District as part of the national Principal for a Day program this Thursday Dec. 3.

The program, which was started locally in 2004, has grown to include 144 executives who participated last year.

“Participants come from small to large businesses that represented all of the major economic drivers of the region including finance, health care, hospitality, manufacturing and the military,” said Allen Wutzdorff, executive director of The Education Foundation, which helps administer the program.

Executives shadow the principals in their everyday routine, from attending assemblies to meeting with teachers and observing students in classes. The program is intended to form a link between business and education to share ideas and resources as well as create relationships that can benefit both students and the businesses.

Following the shadow day, participants gather for breakfast to share their experiences and ideas on how business can play a role in education.

Any business executives or community leaders interested in participating should contact Heather Cooke at 843-805-3080 or by e-mail. For a Principal for a Day application, click here.
