James Roosevelt Jr., grandson of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, will give a lecture about health care policy on Dec. 3 at The Citadel.
The lecture, titled Health Care Policy in the Balance, is sponsored by the John C. West Chair Speaker Series in the school’s Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice.
Roosevelt is president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan, a not-for-profit health maintenance organization based in Massachusetts. Before becoming president of the company, he was general counsel and senior vice president from 1999 to 2005.
Roosevelt has worked as an associate commissioner for retirement policy in the Social Security Administration and, in November 2008, President-elect Barack Obama appointed Roosevelt to his transition team to be co-chairman of a review of the administration. He has served as chief legal counsel for the Massachusetts Democratic Party and is currently co-chairman of the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the Democratic National Committee.
Roosevelt earned his juris doctorate from Harvard Law School and completed the advanced management program at Harvard Business School.
The Dec. 3 lecture will be at 6:30 p.m. in Duckett Hall auditorium. There is no charge to attend and the lecture is open to the public.
