Greystar Real Estate Partners and Operation Home recently completed renovations on six homes in the Lowcountry area in Operation Home: Greystar Blitz.
In two days, more than 75 volunteers from Greystar and Operation Home repaired and renovated homes, including fixing roofs, building wheelchair ramps, reinforcing flooring and installing new kitchens.
This was the first project ‘blitz’ for Operation Home, but the organization hopes it is the first of many future partnerships between the non-profit and other area businesses that want to take on similar renovation projects.

Firefly Distillery recently raised $4,700 for the charity Feed the Need at a recent fundraiser it held at its Wadmalaw Island distillery.
Other partners in the fundraiser included the band Sol Driven Train, Cru Catering, Mellow Mushroom of Mount Pleasant and Black Jack BBQ.
Feed the Need is a cooperative of 52 area restaurants in the tri-County area that collect money and donate food to other area ministries and non-profits. Every other week, the restaurants prepare food and volunteer staff members to work at local food shelters.

The Supporters of Historical Cypress Gardens and Google are partnering to hold a community benefit event for Cypress Gardens on Nov. 14.
The event, which will have live music, children’s games, face painting, a raffle and other surprises, will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Palmetto Bar-b-cue will donate 20% of its proceeds from selling food at the event to the supporters.
Raffle prizes will be provided by Google, which also will match proceeds from the event up to $5,000.
Admission prices will be reduced by half with a discount coupon, which is available at any Berkeley County library. Reduced prices are $5 and $2.50 for children. For more information on the event, go online.

Teacher’s Supply Closet is hosting its third The Write Start breakfast at 8 a.m. on Nov. 10 at The Riviera at Charleston Place Hotel.
The annual fundraiser breakfast will highlight news from this past year as well as future goals.
Teacher’s Supply Closet provides complimentary school supplies to teachers in schools with 90% of its students enrolled in a free or reduced lunch program.

Local UPS stores around Charleston are hosting a Holiday Feast Food Drive until Nov. 23.
Customers who bring a non-perishable food item to donate at any local UPS store will receive $1 off any product or service offered. The food drive benefits the Lowcountry Food Bank.

The Charleston Miracle League is celebrating its fifth anniversary this Saturday Nov. 7 at the Joe Griffin Miracle Field.
The event starts at 9 a.m. between baseball games. CML’s new partner, The Coastal Community Foundation, will be presented with a $15,000 check to start a new Baseball Forever Endowment Fund. The fund will provide future investments for the league.
Board members and other CML workers will be recognized, and an area will be dedicated as the Mary Jane Murphy Memorial Garden.
CML offers recreational opportunities to people with physical and mental challenges so they can participate in an organized baseball league.

The Charleston Fine Art Annual is being held starting tonight until this Saturday.
Hosted by the Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association, this annual event highlights leading artists in a series of events that benefit the Charleston County High School fine art programs.
It starts tonight with the first of a three-part lecture series on Women in Art by the Gibbes Museum of Art. Then it continues with an art gallery stroll at 5 p.m. on Friday with CFADA galleries.
On Saturday morning, the Painting in the Park event takes place at Washington Park where artists will create works to be auctioned off at the Charleston Art Auction.
