The event, which will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the lobby of Roper Hospital, will provide complimentary clinical breast exams, health information, food and giveaways.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure festivities will kick off tonight with a special lighting ceremony at the U.S. Custom House on East Bay Street.
The Lowcountry affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has teamed up with race sponsor Production Design Associates to use lights to create a large pink ribbon on the Custom House. It will be on display from 5 to 11 p.m.
PDA is a lighting, sound and effects company. The race is Saturday on Daniel Island.

The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center is hosting its annual fall oyster roast Oct. 22 at the Visitor Center bus shed in downtown Charleston.
In addition to the oysters, there will be chili, hot dogs, beer and wine. Live music will be provided by Triple Lindy.

The goal of the event is to provide breast exams to women who don’t have access to these services.
“Our annual screening clinic gives women vital information on breast health in an encouraging, upbeat venue,” said Teresa Pischner, a registered nurse and breast nurse navigator for Roper St. Francis Cancer Center. “And with the support of the Best Chance Network and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, we can offer free mammograms to women who need assistance.”
Registration is required. To be eligible for the complimentary exam, participants must be at least 20 years old and not have had a breast exam in the past year.

As part of the Diaper Change campaign, BlueChoice HealthPlan is collecting donations of disposable diapers to be distributed to low-income families.
Attendees of Sunday’s Mount Pleasant Children’s Day Festival are asked to bring a package of disposable diapers to donate. The festival will be held at the Park West Recreation Complex from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The diapers are distributed by food banks and other organizations that work with low-income families. The goal is to collect at least 250,000 diapers by the end of the year. BlueChoice Medicaid is also asking for wipes or cash donations.
Residents who want to donate diapers can also drop them off at the Lowcountry Food Bank or the SC BlueStore in Mount Pleasant.
