Scientific Research Corp. will add 300 workers and invest an additional $4 million at its North Charleston facility over the next five years, the company announced Tuesday.
The Atlanta-based company provides advanced engineering solutions for government and commercial customers. The planned addition would increase its local work force to about 1,000, said Michael Watt, president and CEO. The bulk of the company’s employees are located in North Charleston.

Watt said the North Charleston facility will be a hub for electronic systems work for federal customers, including the U.S. Defense, State and Justice departments.
Choosing North Charleston for the expansion had a lot to do with the nearby Space and Naval Weapons Systems Center Atlantic, or SPAWAR, Watt said.
“One of our valued customers is just right across the street,” he said.
Watt said the new jobs will require workers with backgrounds in science and engineering.
Scientific Research Corp. first located a facility in North Charleston in 1995. Last year, the company moved from its location at Faber Place to a newer, larger building in Remount Business Park on Remount Road.
Local and state officials, including Gov. Mark Sanford, gathered at the Remount Road facility on Tuesday for the expansion announcement.
