The Housing Authority of the City of Charleston recently awarded a $509,000 contract for maintenance and renovation of its public housing units.
The contract went to Carl Garris & Son and includes work on 20 individual units at sites on Cannon, St. Philip, South and Nassau streets. Work will include curb and parking lot repair, landscaping, siding and roof replacement, and tile floor installation.
Although the work was originally going to be financed from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds, delays during the bid process diverted that money to other projects. The money is now coming from the Capital Fund Program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Work will begin Nov. 1 and is expected to last six months.
