Members of the Wind Energy Production Farms Feasibility Study Committee will host a public comment session regarding offshore wind farms and energy policy in South Carolina from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Baruch Institute in Georgetown.
The committee was established by state legislation to review, study and make recommendations regarding the feasibility of windmill farms in the state. The upcoming public comment sessions will mark the fourth meeting of the study committee and give residents a forum to express their opinions about the future of offshore wind development in South Carolina.
In previous meetings, committee members discussed whether South Carolina is a suitable site for wind production on land or in offshore areas; the economic and environmental impact to the state; and the cost of wind farm installation and operation in the state.
The committee will submit a report with recommendations to the General Assembly and the governor by Jan. 1.
