A human resources analysis company that counts the NFL among its clients is expanding to Daniel Island.

Wonderlic Inc. which provides assessment and retention solutions for its clients, said it decided to expand to Charleston after searching among several cities in the Southeast.

“Charleston quickly rose to the top based on three primary factors: availability of a highly capable talent pool; demonstrated leadership in supporting knowledge-based companies; and the region’s outstanding livability,” said CEO Charles F. Wonderlic Jr. “As part of our expansion criteria, the availability of capable talent is paramount.”

Wonderlic said the company ran employment ads ahead of its decision to move to the area, and it used online tools to assess responses. Headquartered in Libertyville, Ill., the 72-year-old company has worked with more than 50,000 organizations worldwide to identify, select and retain qualified people.

Wonderlic’s clients include retailers, restaurants, manufacturing firms, franchisors, professional service firms, colleges and technical schools — as well as the National Football League — the company said in a statement.

“Wonderlic’s decision to locate on Daniel Island, in the Digital Corridor’s Cainhoy district, further reinforces that Charleston’s professional community continues to experience job growth despite the current national economic climate,” Charleston Mayor Joe Riley said in a statement.

The expansion of Wonderlic was facilitated by the Charleston Digital Corridor.

“The ability of our organization to connect Charlie Wonderlic with passionate, like-minded professionals in the Digital Corridor allowed him to experience the synergies of our knowledge-based community firsthand,” said Ernest Andrade, director of the Charleston Digital Corridor.

Company officials said Wonderlic’s new Daniel Island office will serve as an incubator for building and marketing of industry-specific services, targeting vertical markets such as dental practices, law firms and restaurants.
