Force Protection awarded $56.3 million contract for upgrades to Cougars




Cougar_large Force Protection Inc. announced today that the Marine Corps has awarded it a $56.3 million contract to install suspension upgrade kits on Cougar vehicles. The contract is on top of a $158 million award the company announced on April 9 to install the suspension kits on approximately 1,500 Cougar vehicles.

Force Protection Inc. announced today that the Marine Corps has awarded it a $56.3 million contract to install suspension upgrade kits on Cougar vehicles.

Spartan Cougars The work, to be done overseas, involves 545 Cougar vehicles and is to be completed before the end of the year.

The contract is on top of a $158 million award the company announced April 9 to install the suspension kits on approximately 1,500 Cougar vehicles.

“This additional independent suspension order further demonstrates the flexibility and sustainability of the Cougar,” Force Protection CEO Michael Moody said in a statement. “The Cougar has performed extremely well in Iraq, with an impressive operational readiness rate.”

The point of the upgrade, Moody said, is to create Cougars with increased mobility to handle the rugged terrain of Afghanistan.
