Twenty businesses and organizations from the Charleston region have been selected as finalists for the Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.
Last October, Charleston was selected as one of 30 communities to participate in When Work Works, which is designed to share research and best practices on what makes work “work” in the 21st Century. Leadership in the Charleston region for When Work Works was designated to the Business Development Division of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, also one of the 20 finalists.
Twenty-eight area businesses applied through the When Work Works program, a nationwide initiative on effective and flexible workplaces. This awards look for employers with innovative workplace effectiveness and flexibility programs and practices.
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation uses a scoring methodology that includes employees’ views as well as employer practices and then honors organizations and work sites that are using workplace flexibility as a strategy to increase workplace effectiveness, yield positive business results and to help employees succeed.
To be eligible, employers must have a work site in Charleston, a minimum of 10 employees and in operation for at least one year.
