The Charleston RiverDogs baseball team has stepped up to the plate in support of the Teachers’ Supply Closet, with a commitment to keep the “closet” supplied with the basic needs of students in the tri-county area.
This season, one lower bowl reserved-seat ticket for all RiverDogs home games will be offered to the first 100 fans for $1 when a designated school product is brought to the game. Those items include:
- Package of baby wipes or hand sanitizer.
- Box of crayons (minimum of eight).
- Loose-leaf (college-ruled or wide-ruled) filler paper (minimum of 250 sheets).
- Composition notebook (primary or marble).
- Three-ring binders.
- Wide-ruled notebook.
“Education is vital to the health and growth of our community, and we are dedicated to this endeavor,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols.
“With the challenges facing our teaching administrators and media focus on their issues, we must not lose sight of the ball,” said Dorothy Harrison, president of the Teachers’ Supply Closet board of directors and Charleston Water Systems’ chief administrative officer.
Currently, Lowcountry teachers spend an average of $1,200 of their own money to buy school supplies for students each school year. Many families cannot afford adequate school supplies and teachers must find creative ways to supplement the resources they need for classroom instruction.
