Franke at Seaside is holding its third annual BeWell Health and Wellness Fair for Older Adults from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 23 at Franke’s Rodenberg Hall.
The independent living community has invited 30 local resource organizations and businesses to participate, and Roper St. Francis HealthCare will provide free fasting cholesterol and blood sugar screenings. In addition, the Mount Pleasant Senior Center, senior advocate John Jenkins and The Foot Store will have representatives in attendance, and healthy snacks, tai chi and Nintendo Wii demonstrations will be among the offerings.
The public is invited to the wellness fair, at 1885 Rifle Range Road in Mount Pleasant.

As part of its annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the YWCA of Greater Charleston Inc. will hold the 9th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Business and Professional Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at Gaillard Municipal Auditorium.
About 800 local business representatives are expected at the meeting, which will feature Voorhees College President Cleveland L. Sellers Jr. as the keynote speaker.
Tickets cost $25. Payments can be mailed to the YWCA of Greater Charleston Inc., 106 Coming St., Charleston, SC 29403. Credit card registrations are also accepted by mail or telephone. Tickets are limited.

Fields to Families recently opened an office in Mount Pleasant. The nonprofit group is located at 222 W. Coleman Blvd. and can be reached at 843-388-2487. Fields to Families works with farms and volunteers to harvest unused fruits and vegetables for needy families in the Lowcountry. The group is looking for volunteers and farm partners.
