Hagemeyer announced the winners of its 2007 Supplier of the Year awards: Stanley-Proto for industrial products, Brady for safety products and Pass & Seymour for electrical products. Top supplier partners in each product segment were rated on relationship strength, customer service, quality and pricing.

 

The Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association has announced elections to its executive board. Helena Fox of Helena Fox Fine Art was named president; Johnson Hagood of Carolina Galleries was elected treasurer and Lauren Hensarling of Coleman Fine Art was elected secretary.

 

The Charleston County Government Safety and Risk Management Department has received three state awards from the South Carolina Association of Counties. The 2007 Outstanding Safety Achievement Award was given for the combined effort between the Safety and Risk Management Department and Emergency Medical Services. The county implemented 23 new hydraulic ambulance stretchers, reducing the number of back injuries to EMS paramedics by more than 70%. The 2007 Sustained Excellence in Risk Management Award was given to Charleston County for its continued strain injury reduction campaign initiative and for achieving the lowest number of on-the-job injuries since joining the South Carolina Counties Workers Compensation Trust in 1991. The 2007 Service Award was bestowed for the department’s assistance to other counties with their safety and risk management concerns and for the department’s oversight during Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Week.

 

Three Lowcountry preservation projects received 2008 Historic Preservation Awards at the Landmark and Preservation Conference. The restoration of Charleston City Hall won an Archeological Stewardship and a Preservation Honor Award for the city of Charleston. The Noisette Co. of North Charleston won an Honor Award for its renovation of the Navy Yard building at 10 Storehouse Row. Engineering firm 4SE Inc. won an Honor Award for its renovations of the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul.

 

Trident Health System, including Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center, has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association of Respiratory Care. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation ensure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services.

 

Paul Heinauer, president of Glasspro Inc. and a certified S.C. Department of Insurance instructor, recently taught two continuing education courses to local insurance agents in the Hilton Head area. 

 

Kevin N. Hedges, managing partner of Hedges Wealth Management LLC and a financial professional with AXA Advisors LLC in Mount Pleasant, has earned a certificate in retirement planning from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Coldwell Banker and NRT LLC honored The Condo Store and its agents in recognition of its third best year with more than 4,000 units closed. The Condo Store received two top office recognition building and development awards, one for gross commission income and one for total units closed.

 

Wendy Williams, purchasing director at the College of Charleston, has been elected president of the S.C. Association of Governmental Purchasing Officials.

 

SGM Architects Inc. has announced Joshua Allison’s completion of the architect registration exam, making him eligible for a state architectural license. Allison has been with SGM as a project manager since 2000.

 

Charleston Women in International Trade has announced its elected officers for 2008-09; Lynn Anne Christensen, Merrill Lynch, chairperson; Jacky Sassard, S.C. Gordon A. Nicholson, architect and owner of Gordon A. Nicholson, Architect LLC, earned a National American Institute of Architects 2008 Small Projects Award for the Nautilus/Valinski residence located in Mount Pleasant.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has recognized Dr. J. Gregory Thomas of Infectious Diseases Consultants and Travel Medicine P.C., as the deserving physician from a Pulse Survey. IDC also announced its newest doctor, Toby Lynn Fugate. Fugate completed his fellowship at Wake Forest University and is board certified in infectious diseases.

 

Chernoff Newman, a full-service advertising, public relations and marketing communications firm, was honored with 20 ADDY Awards at this year’s ceremony in March at the Riviera Theatre in Charleston. Chernoff Newman received two judges’ awards for best broadcast copy and best cinematography, as well as four gold ADDY awards for its work with AJ Davis, the North Charleston Coliseum and the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

 

The 10 winners of the 2008 Nexsen Pruet Diversity Scholarship Program are: Danielle McLean, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law; Tamekia L. Brandon and Precious Green, North Carolina Central University School of Law; Courtney D. Earle and Melissa Garcia, University of South Carolina School of Law; Nader Raja, Azaria Tesfa, Neubia Williams, Rasheim Donaldson and Ana-Cristina Jimenez, Wake Forest University School of Law. Nexsen Pruet’s Diversity Scholarship is awarded annually to exceptional minority students who are entering their first year of law school and planning careers in the Carolinas. In addition to the $3,000 scholarship, the students may be considered for summer employment in one of Nexsen Pruet’s offices.

 

The S.C. Supreme Court announced J. Michael Grant of the Charleston firm Grant & Kuyk has qualified for recertification as a specialist in the area of taxation law.

 

Bob Seidler, innkeeper at the Wentworth Mansion since 2001, received recognition for earning the Wentworth Mansion its fifth diamond from AAA. Seidler’s article on customer service was published in the July 2007 issue of Customer Service Manager, and he was a presenter at the 2008 S.C. Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Seidler achieved the fifth diamond during his second year of service, making the Wentworth downtown Charleston’s only AAA Five Diamond property.

 

Chef Brett McKee of Oak Steakhouse and the Sustainable Seafood Initiative are the two recipients of the BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival Culinary Legend Award. McKee was recognized for his continuing charitable, innovative and historic restoration efforts. SSI was commended on its efforts in raising awareness for the issue of responsible management of local fisheries and conscientious use of local and sustainable fish.

 

The College of Charleston’s Students in Free Enterprise Team took top honors in the 2008 SIFE USA Regional Competition. SIFE is an international nonprofit organization in which teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that address five educational themes: market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills and business ethics. The College of Charleston team consisted of the following members: Matthew Foster, Greenville, S.C.; Molly Murtaugh, Belmont, Mass.; Harriett Lee, Charleston; Lauren Box, Charlotte, N.C.; Kathryn Campbell, St. Louis, Mo.;  Ben Silverstein, Rochester, N.Y.; Maureen Porzio, Savannah, Ga.

 

The Lowcountry Graduate Center has received five Admissions Advertising Awards for its external marketing efforts in the categories of Magazine Single Ad, Newspaper Ad Series, Billboard, Logo, and Direct Mail. The awards included two Silver, one Bronze and two awards of Merit. The Admissions Marketing Report sponsors the Admissions Advertising Awards.

 

Charleston Women in International Trade has named Lindy Rinaldi as the 2008 recipient of its Woman of the Year Award. Rinaldi is the chief of police at the S.C. State Ports Authority, with 25 years experience in law enforcement and 20 years with the Ports Authority. Having previously served on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard, Rinaldi now serves on the AAPA Security Committee, Port Security Caucus, SeaHawk Area Maritime executive board, the Lowcountry Counterterrorism Council and the South Atlantic Port Security Committee.

 

Dr. Cary Bocklet was elected to serve as vice president of the S.C. Association of Orthodontists. Bocklet has practiced orthodontics in Charleston since 1995.

The Greenery LLC, in partnership with the Lowcountry Housing Trust, landscaped the home of Michael and Taryn Richardson, who were nominated for the program by Lenore McKenna, executive director of the Charleston Area Community Development Corp. In 2005, CACDC was awarded $60,000 from the Lowcountry Housing Trust to assist with the development of three affordable houses in the Silver Hill Neighborhood in the city of Charleston, which includes the Richardson’s home.

 

The Lowcountry affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure distributed more than $500,000 to several organizations throughout the Lowcountry. The grant funds are provided largely from community donations to the 2007 Komen Race for the Cure and the funds will provide breast cancer education, outreach, treatment support and screening projects.
