Wild Dunes Resort received the Silver Award for Web marketing from The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International during an award ceremony on Jan. 28 in New York. The award recognizes Wild Dunes’ new design of its Web site, www.wilddunes.com. Wild Dunes partnered with E-site Marketing, a Bethesda, Md.- based Internet marketing firm, and locally based Rawle Murdy on the redesign.

Charleston County government employee Dolores Dong, who has worked for the county for 20 years, has passed the South Carolina Government Finance Officers Certification exam. The program is administered and offered for the Government Finance Officers Association of South Carolina by the University of South Carolina’s Institute for Public Service and Policy Research.

Sheryl McAlister, an accountant in WebsterRogers’ Charleston office, has been authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to use the board’s certification marks. The marks identify those who have met the rigorous experience and ethical requirements of the board, have successfully completed financial planning coursework and have passed the CFP Certification Examination.

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough partner Mark Fava was a featured speaker at the 2008 International Air Taxi Convention legal workshop. Fava, who has served as general counsel to the Atlanta-based Air Taxi Association, led a session featuring a panel of representatives from leading air taxi companies including DayJet, ImagineAir, NowJet and YourJet.

First Impressions Home Staging & Interior ReDesign LLC Vice President Bevin Harmon Googer has been named the 2007 Rookie Stager of the Year by the Real Estate Staging Association.

Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ commissioner Susan Mellichamp was selected by the South Carolina Rural Water Association as the 2007 Board and Commissioner Member of the Year. The award recognizes Mellichamp for her abilities and service to her community.

South Carolina Federal Credit Union and creative partner Creaxion received a Silver International Davey Award for the credit union’s "Member Experience" training video. The award is given by the International Academy of Visual Arts. The credit union also received two statewide industry awards from the South Carolina Credit Union League: first place in the Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility for its 2006 Holiday Shoe Drive; and honorable mention in the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action for its 2006 fourth-quarter checking account promotion.

The Center for Women has announced the 2008 officers and board of directors. Clemson University honored Charleston architect Frank E. Lucas, chairman of the board of directors for LS3P Associates Ltd., with an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.

Timothy M. Winkler Sr., CEO and principal of Winkler Consulting Group, has earned recertification as a Certified Fund Raising Executive by Certified Fund Raising Executive International. Individuals granted the CFRE credential have met a series of standards which include tenure in the profession, education, demonstrated fundraising achievement and a commitment to service to not-for-profit organizations.

Alice Paylor of Rosen Rosen & Hagood LLC has been elected to serve a two-year term as chair of the House of Delegates of the South Carolina Bar Association.

The Mount Pleasant Pride Committee has chosen Park West Development Inc. to receive the semi-annual Civic Pride Award for 2007. The committee includes residents of Mount Pleasant who meet monthly to discuss opportunities for beautification of the town of Mount Pleasant. Park West was awarded for making a significant contribution and effort towards the beautification of Mount Pleasant.

Trio Solutions President Jessica Munday was selected from hundreds of applicants to present an educational session for event planners who work for or with nonprofit organizations or companies with limited resources at The Special Event 2008, an annual trade show for event professionals in the United States.

A Charleston Event & Bridal Library celebrated its seventh anniversary.

The National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center – Southeast Region, a program administered by SCRA, held a dedication ceremony to remember and honor Coleman Knight, a 30-year career law enforcement officer who unexpectedly passed away one year ago. Knight made contributions to the mission of center. Following the ceremony, a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the center’s conference room, named in Knight’s honor.

The Charleston American Marketing Association has been awarded the prestigious Chapter Excellence Award for marketing excellence during the 2006 to 2007 fiscal year by the national American Marketing Association. Selected for the Leadership Special Merit Award, the Charleston chapter was the youngest and smallest chapter and region to take home a national award, competing against cities such as Atlanta, Boston and Washington, D.C.

D. Jay Davis Jr. has been elected to serve a three-year term on the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association Executive Committee. He is a partner at Young Clement Rivers LLP where he serves as the chair of the professional liability practice group.

Keith Oliver, senior vice president of HOME, has been elected as 2008 chairman of the Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies.

Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina announced the women who make a difference in their local communities at the annual Women of Distinction event. The 2008 Women of Distinction include Carol Antman of Creative Spark Center for the arts distinction; Natalie Parker Bluestein of Bluestein and Douglas LLC for the business distinction; Lynn Young of Lowcountry Orphan Relief for the community and humanitarian distinction; Myrtle McDaniel, formerly a teacher at Georgetown School, for the education distinction; Lois Scott, formerly a teacher at Georgetown School, for the Girl Scout Lifetime Service distinction; Deborah Summey, Charleston County Magistrate, for the government distinction; Heather Holbrook of Island Eye News for the media and communications distinction; Dr. Gwendolyn Brown of Gwendolyn B. Brown and Associates for the medicine and health care distinction; and Carol Linville of Pet Helpers for the nonprofit distinction.

SGA Architecture LLC received a 2007 Merit Award from the South Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Landscape Architects for the design of a 50-acre custom residential site in Horry County.

The Greenery maintenance supervisor Al Fogle has passed the Environmental Landscape Certification exam. The exam is offered through the South Carolina Landscape and Turfgrass Association. Certification promotes responsible environmental stewardship among the landscape industry.

The College of Charleston’s Division of Marketing and Communications won the Council for Advancement and Support of Education III Special Merit Award for their Graduate School admissions publication, The Graduate School of the College of Charleston. The publication beat 65 other submissions from a wide range of large universities, colleges, secondary and primary private schools.

The South Carolina Chapter of American Society of Home Inspectors has elected the 2008 officers: President Kevin Westendorff, of Low Country Home Inspections; Vice President Lewis White, of Low Country Home Inspections; and Secretary Bill Brooks, of American Inspection Services.

The Charleston Trident Home Builders Association has installed the 2008 board of directors: President Travis McCory of Beazer Homes; Vice President Tori Martindale of Atlantic Builders; Secretary Jackson Bender of First Coast Homes; Treasurer Mike Futeral of G&S Home Remodeling and Associates; and Vice President Andy Barber of HD Supply Lumber and Building Materials. The immediate past president is Wally Seinsheimer III of Tidewater Homes. New to the Home Builders board is Jeff Meyer, division president for KB Home, and Mark Lipsmeyer, president of the I’On Group. Big and Little Brothers and Sisters awarded Edward Tant the Wendy M. Hall Big Brother of the Year and Ronii Bartles the Wendy M. Hall Big Sister of the Year. Also to be recognized were CJ Award recipients Bartles, Patrick Tivnan, Himanshu Upadhyaya, Barrett Brewer, Diana Perez, Joyce Aungst, Wayne French, Natalie Turner, Christine Meekins, Mike Branch and Mary Lou Branch. The corporate partner of the year was Blackbaud. The Wendy M. Hall Big Sister of the Year Award is named in memory of Hall, who dedicated her life to serving children as the Mentor Services Coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carolina Youth Development Center in Charleston. The CJ Award is named in honor of the longtime friendship of Jason "CJ" Bundy, a former Little Brother.

The Charleston Horticultural Society named Jim Martin as the recipient of this year’s 1830 Award, which honors exemplary service and creative vision in the field of horticulture and is presented at the Horticultural Society’s Annual Founders Day meeting. Martin joined the ranks of previous 1830 Award winners including author and lecturer Jan MacDougal, Rosarian Ruth Knopf and author and botanist Richard Porcher.

Bishop Gadsden Chef Demal Mattson placed second at the 25th Annual Oyster Festival Recipe Contest. Mattson served up fried oysters with a pineapple glaze, finished with a tropical fruit salsa and garnished with a fried sweet potato.
