Tom Martin has been elected chair of the College of Charlestons Department of Communication Advisory Council for 2008. Martin, who joined the department in August as the executive-in-residence, succeeds Michael Fanning, vice president of corporate affairs for Michelin North America, who served as chair for two years. Karen Kaplan, general manager of Fleishman-Hillard Atlanta, has been named vice chair, succeeding Martin. The council also elected four new members at its most recent on-campus meeting. Mount Pleasant Clerk of Court Sally Phipps was elected president of the Municipal Court Administration Association of South Carolina, following her tenure last year as vice president. Members of the Municipal Court Administration Association of South Carolina elected their 2007-2008 board of directors at their annual meeting.

Pam Bishop of Prudential Carolina Real Estate was named the 2007 Realtor of the Year by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. The award was presented during the associations annual Holiday Gala. The award recognizes Bishops local, state and national contributions to the community, real estate industry and association. Bishop has been a real estate agent for 18 years.

Trident Technical College recognized David Yarborough for being the colleges advocate at the biannual Benefactors Make a Difference dinner sponsored by the S.C. Technical College System. Yarborough, general manager of Lexus of Charleston, has served as chair of the Trident Technical College Foundation board of directors since 2006. Under his leadership, the foundation raised $692,892 in private contributions during the 2006-2007 year.

(No. 12), Roper St. Francis Healthcare (No. 21) and The Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties (No. 47) in the 2007 South Carolina Big 50. The Big 50 ranks companies by the number of South Carolina employees on the companys payroll.

The board of the South Carolina State Ports Authority has elected David J. Posek of Greenville to serve a two-year term as chairman and approved upland site work for a new terminal in the Port of Charleston. Gov. Mark Sanford named Posek to the Authority Board in October 2005, and he has served as secretary since 2006. He has also chaired the boards Strategic Planning Committee.
Ray Turner, a 15-year employee of Charleston County Public Library, was named 2007 Outstanding Librarian of the Year by the S.C. Library Association. The award recognizes a librarian in South Carolina who serves as a role model through outstanding professionalism, leadership and service.
Omniflight Helicopters Inc. flight paramedic Jason Hammond won first place winner for the companys 12th annual Carolina Competition. The Carolina Competition is a regional program designed to demonstrate the skill and knowledge required to master the extremely rigorous simulations presented to participants during the competition. The competition tests paramedics in a two-day course of simulated technical scenarios, designed to assess their abilities when reacting to emergency situations and evaluate their treatments of the various injuries that are presented to them in these circumstances.
Jim Rowe, a CCIM with Landmark South LLC, has completed a course called Sustainable Development- Principals and Practices for Green Communities sponsored by the Urban Land Institute. The Urban Land Institute is a nonprofit devoted to education and research with focus on the development of land in order to enhance the environment.
Dick Trammell, president of Charleston-based DestinationCarolinasUSA, has been appointed to the 2008 Leadership Team of the National Tour Association by the associations chairman and CEO Bob Hoelscher. Trammell will chair the National Tour Associations newly formed Selling National Tour Association Product Online Task Force.
The Charleston Battery has been named United Soccer League First Division Organization of the Year for 2007. The award is presented each year to one franchise in recognition of outstanding performances and excellence off the field during the previous season.
