O.L. Thompson has been elected to the Charleston Community Board of The National Bank of South Carolina. Thompson is CEO of O.L. Thompson Construction Co. Inc., Thompson Trucking Company Inc. and Wando Concrete LLC.
Abbott & Hill Travel is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2007. Abbott & Hill Travel opened as Abbott Travel in 1972. It was founded by Dick and Mary Abbott and located on Old Towne Road in Charleston. Donna Hill joined the company in 1977 and became a partner in 1986, and renamed the company Abbot & Hill. Hill was named president of the company when the Abbotts retired in 1989.
Wild Dunes Resort was recognized by The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association for the resorts modular brochure in the 2006 Adrian Awards. The new brochure was submitted in the Advertising and PR Campaign category as a primary piece to build awareness of the resorts new meeting and events facility, The Sweetgrass Pavilion. Wild Dunes partnered with Rawle Murdy Associates on the design, creation and production of the campaign.
The Mount Pleasant Business and Professional Association re-elected four members of its board: Margaret Cotton, president, second term; Chuck Diggle, vice president, third term; Diane Pauldine, secretary, 10th term; and Lynda Boals, treasurer, fifth term. The International Game Fish Association has named the Coastal Conservation Association as a recipient of its Conservation Award, established to honor organizations that have made significant and outstanding contributions to the cause of conservation in the freshwater, saltwater and fly fishing communities.

Dorchester Habitat for Humanity appointed Lauree Bradway of Lauree Bradway and Associates as spokeswoman for its 2007 annual fund campaign. The yearly annual fund campaign aims to cover Dorchester Habitats projected cost for the year.
J. Ronald Jones Jr., an attorney with Clawson & Staubes LLC of Charleston, has been appointed to the board of Healing Farm Ministries, a local nonprofit organization serving families and individuals touched by developmental disabilities.
Summerville Homes LLC was named as Business of the Year 2006 by the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce. Terri A. Haack, vice president and regional managing director for Destination Hotels and Resorts, was elected as a shareholder for Lowe Enterprises Inc. Haack joined Destination in 2002 to oversee the redevelopment of Wild Dunes Resort.
Wild Dunes Real Estate agent Sandy Murphy was awarded the Accredited Luxury Home Specialist designation from the Luxury Home Council. The ALHS designation requires the successful completion of the Accredited Luxury Home Specialist course. Designees must be in good standing with the National Association of Realtors and meet the qualifications for transactions representing buyers and sellers.
The Cassique Garden Cottages at Kiawah Island Golf Resort won a Pinnacle Award for high standards in craftsmanship in homebuilding by the Home Builders Association of South Carolina. Each year, HBA of South Carolina awards a Pinnacle Award to homes in eight price ranges. The Cassique Garden Cottages won the category for the price range of $2 million to $4.99 million homes.
The Charleston American Marketing Association presented the SPARK! Awards for Marketing Excellence, sponsored by the Charleston Regional Business Journal. Focused on marketing strategy and return on investment earned through influential and powerful marketing plans, it is also the only competition in the Lowcountry that recognizes overall marketing excellence. Blackbaud Inc.s Are You Doing Enough campaign won the Pyrotechnics Award, recognizing marketing excellence in large business. Obviouslee Marketings Coastal Cigars rebranding campaign won the Firecracker Award, recognizing marketing excellence in small business. Charleston Metro Sports Councils Southern Conference campaign won the Torch Award, recognizing excellence in nonprofit. The Beach Co.s Canalside groundbreaking event won the Dynamite Award, recognizing excellence for an event. Rawle Murdy Associates Circle K Memphis Grand Opening won the Fuse Award, recognizing marketing excellence in creating a buzz about a product, service or event. Trio Solutions African American Historical Alliance campaign won the Match Award, recognizing marketing excellence using the smallest budget.

Melissa Cox of Summerville will serve as chief operating officer for Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina. Cox is the former CEO of Girl Scouts of Carolina Low Country.
Leon Lantagne, a former Mount Pleasant Fire Department captain and training officer, has been named as a battalion chief for the MPFD.
Students from high schools in Mount Pleasant and North Charleston won honors at the fourth-annual S.C. Hospitality Student Invitational, an event sponsored by the S.C. Tourism and Hospitality Educational Foundation. In the culinary competition, Wando High School students Sam Parvin, Blake Barber, Kaylee Crane and Emily Byrd won top honors for their smoked quail breast over arugula salad with crispy grits fries and pepper jelly; Berkshire pork loin with pinot noir sauce, butternut squash, potato puree and braised rainbow chard; followed by chocolate hazelnut mousse with raspberry Chantilly and passion fruit coulis. Their teacher is Julian Buckner and they were mentored by Robert Carter of Peninsula Grill in Charleston. Garrett Academy students Marvin Pendarvis, NeShama Wilson, Jordan Carter and Meghan Ellington received second place in the competition. Their instructor is Joe Secrest.

The Family Circle Tennis Center has been named a Top 50 Tennis Welcome Center of 2006 by the Tennis Industry Association and United States Tennis Association. The Family Circle Tennis Center is one of only three sites in South Carolina to be recognized for growing the game of tennis and providing top-quality instruction, exciting programming and a great social setting to encourage people to enjoy tennis.
