Infant couture, Charleston-style, has arrived in New York City.
Pixie Lily, a luxury infant clothing company founded by local designer Leda Jackson and headquartered in Charleston, was recently invited to set up its own boutique area inside the fabled toy store FAO Schwartz at 1345 Avenue of the Americas.
David Niggli, president and chief merchandising officer for FAO Schwartz, said customers now will be able to dress their children in the same special handmade layettes that have become favorites of celebrities such as actress Gwyneth Paltrow Martin, Mariska Hargitay and Holly Robinson Peete.
FAO Schwartz has a 145-year history of offering items of unsurpassed quality, design and originality, which is why we are thrilled to welcome Pixie Lily to the FAO Schwarz family, Niggli said. We look forward to enjoying a long and successful partnership with the Pixie Lily brand.
Jackson founded Pixie Lily in 2000 after designing and sewing infant clothing for her own daughter. The first Pixie Lily layettes were inspired by family heirlooms worn by Jacksons grandfather. The Pixie Lily clothing line is now represented in more than 500 national and international specialty boutiques.
Jackson said Pixie Lily is the only domestic infant clothing line sold in FAO Schwartz, which also carries European-made baby clothes.
I consider it as fabulous advertising for us because the store is such a tourist mecca, Jackson said. I feel its going to take word-of-mouth of our brand to the four corners. Its very flattering and I feel great things are going to come from it.
