Mount Pleasant Fire Department promoted John Whetsell to training officer. Whetsell has 13 years of experience with the department.

 

The town of Mount Pleasant hired Jan Crates as deputy director of administrative services. Crates brings more than 15 years of municipal experience to the department.

 

Donald Automotive Group has hired John “Irish” Burke to oversee Low Country VW and Low Country Mazda in Mount Pleasant. For the past five years, Burke has worked as the finance director and general manager of the Viking Automotive Group in West Ashley.

 

Grand Ideas hired Leslie Bogstad as director of sales and marketing. Prior to joining Grand Ideas, Bogstad worked as senior account executive for The Bosworth Group in Charleston.

 

Nancy O’Neil is the new gallery director for The Richard James Galleries.

 

Kent Floyd was promoted to sales manager for Total Comfort of Charleston and is responsible for providing air conditioning solutions for commercial, industrial and medical building owners.

 

Andrea Kocher joined Coastal Classics, a Charleston home design, accessories and furniture source, as an interior designer. Kocher, an award-winning interior designer from Naples, Fla., brings a variety of design experience to Coastal Classics.

 

MAU Inc. promoted Gary Plyler to business development manager. Plyler’s new role will include management of the sales and business developments.

 

Phillip Ferderigos has become a member of Barnwell Whaley Patterson & Helms. Ferderigos concentrates his practice in the areas of workers’ compensation, civil litigation, insurance defense, personal injury, products liability, professional negligence and toxic torts.

Michael Barfield has been named special counsel and will focus his practice in the areas of professional negligence, construction litigation, commercial litigation, property-related litigation and personal injury.

 

Neal Prince + Partners Architects hired three employees. Marisa Arms has been hired as a project administrator and will assist project managers with the administration needs of projects from design to construction. Stacey Brock joined the firm as a project designer and will work in the residential studio, specializing in residential interiors. Ashley Adair was hired as an administrative assistant and will provide general office support in the administrative and accounting departments.

 

Jennifer Jessup was promoted to senior designer at DesignWorks. Jessup joined DesignWorks in 2005 as a designer and previously worked for Shelia Wertimer.

 

HLA Inc. has hired Joe Taylor as a land surveyor. 

 

Collins Engineers Inc. promoted James K. O’Connor to regional manager from senior project manager. In his new role, O’Connor will oversee projects operated out of Charleston, Louisiana, Mississippi and Dublin, Ireland.

 

WPC Inc., a southeast regional engineering firm headquartered in Mount Pleasant, promoted Kathryn Presler to laboratory manager and hired Ken Canty as project manager for the construction services department and Yony Hernandez as corporate recruiting coordinator.

 

Byers Design Group, a Charleston-based architecture, land architecture and land planning firm, hired Todd Richardson as land architect manager. Richardson previously served as project manager and senior landscape architect for Post Buckley Schuh and Jernigan in Atlanta.

 

Deborah Huggins joined the Mount Pleasant office of AgentOwned Realty.

 

Michelle Whitbeck joined the Mount Pleasant office of Keller Williams Realty. She also owns and operates Whitbeck Public Relations.

 

The Beach Co. hired Mike Shelor as financial manager for the finance and accounting department. He will facilitate all the financial reporting for The Beach Co. and its subsidiary companies. Shelor is a licensed certified public accountant and attorney in South Carolina and brings more than 25 years of experience in the construction and real estate industry.

 

Kandace Salter joined @Home Realty Inc. as a real estate agent. Salter received her real estate license through Fortune Academy’s West Ashley location.

 

The South Carolina Research Authority appointed Mervyn Leavitt as federal sector director, intelligence and security programs. Leavitt recently served as director of the Borders and Maritime Security Division in the Office of the Under Secretary for Science & Technology, a subcommittee of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

 

Carolina First promoted Sameka Jenkins to banking officer. Jenkins joined the bank in May 2005.

 

Alan Uram was promoted to vice president by National Bank of South Carolina. Uram joined NBSC in January 2004 as a commercial lender for the Charleston Broad Street office. He was later promoted to city executive for the South Charleston area.

 

Tidelands Bank, a full-service bank serving coastal South Carolina, hired Robyn Henderson as head teller at the bank’s Summerville branch. Prior to joining Tidelands Bank, Henderson was the teller supervisor at First Union National Bank and worked in the customer relations department at Wachovia, both in the Charleston area.

 

Atlantic Bank & Trust promoted Scott D. Sylvester to senior vice president and market executive. A 19-year veteran banker, Sylvester has been a commercial lender in Charleston since 1994. 

 

Charleston-based TRUMPF Medical Systems Inc. has announced the appointment of Andy Reding as its managing director for North America. Reding took over day-to-day operations of the company and is responsible for developing and executing the company’s business strategy including marketing, sales and service, and distribution channel development.

 

EyeCare Specialties of Charleston welcomed Dr. Patrick W. Smith as a partner. Accompanying Smith is his technician Amanda Caudill. Smith is the current owner of the West Ashley office of Charleston Eye.

 

David T. Lewis has been appointed to the position of vice president and general counsel of Roper St. Francis Healthcare. Lewis previously served as chief legal officer of Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

 

UCI Medical Affiliates Inc. hired Peter MacKinnon as vice president of operations. Previously, MacKinnon was the regional administrator of Doctors Care for the Upstate of South Carolina and Knoxville, Tenn.
