COMPANY HELPS PREPARE STUDENTS FOR CAREERS

Giant Cement is presenting career planning workshops for Woodland High School juniors and seniors during the spring and fall semesters. During six, 90-minute sessions, students learn how to complete an employment application, how to create a resume, how to prepare for an interview and experience a mock job interview. WORKSHOP HELPS WOMEN REINVENT THEMSELVES

A Women in Transition workshop was held at Grazi’s Shoe Café and Wine Bar in the I’On Square. The workshop, conducted by Anne Newell, president of Performax, and Teresa Enright, financial advisor with Merrill Lynch, brings together women who are going through any transition and are interested in reinventing their lives, personally and financially. MUSICORP PRESIDENT SPEAKS TO CLASS

Dan Mahoney, president of Musicorp, shared his business experience with Charleston Southern University’s Master of Business Administration students in Dr. Jairy C. Hunter’s strategic planning and analysis class. Mahoney stressed the importance of a fluid strategic plan that everyone in the company can understand and the importance of hiring the best and most talented people to be a part of your team. OPRAH VISITS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Oprah Winfrey spoke to a sold-out crowd of 2,300 at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center as part of O, The Oprah Magazine’s “Live Your Best Life: An Afternoon with Oprah Winfrey” event.

CULINARY STUDENTS SERVE GUESTS OF WINE EXPO

The 19th Annual Wine Expo and Vintners Dinner raised more than $165,000 to benefit the Culinary Institute of Charleston, the Trident Technical College Foundation and the Patrick E. Ringwald Memorial Culinary Garden. At both events, guests enjoyed fine wines and dined on delicious food prepared and served by Culinary Institute of Charleston students. Silent and live auctions provided winning bidders with travel packages, jewelry, meals by local celebrity chefs, wine, artwork and more, including a 75-pound piece of lattice from the Grace Memorial bridge.
