Gil Shuler Graphic Design was showcased in the Communication Arts 2005 Design Annual. The winning entry was in the trademark category for Bass Botanicals, a local landscape design firm owned by Pam and William Bass. Founded in 1959, Communication Arts is the leading trade journal for visual communications.

Edie Coupe, owner of Peek-A-Boo Baby Inc. on Daniel Island, was invited to attend a celebration of this year’s Oscars Award Show in Beverly Hills, Calif., and have her company’s product, a Peek-A-Boo baby cover-up, featured in the “Hollywood’s Starlet Suite.”

Coldwell Banker Coastal Properties presented several awards to sales associates during its recent company kickoff meeting. Loren Bridges won top honors in the category of photography in the recent National Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Awards held in Nashville, Tenn., for her photo essay entitled “Chronicle of a Moving Experience.”

Century 21 Properties Plus announced that Candy Palmer has been honored with the ruby level of the Century 21 Masters Award. Ruby level status is awarded to an agent who has met a minimum sales production of $100,000 or 30 closed transactions within a calendar year.

Signet Group has been selected by the South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education to assess the administration and operations of the Center for Accelerated Technology Training Program. Signet Group, a Summerville-based human resources and organizational consulting company, will collaborate on the project with Innovative Workforce Solutions.

Kristine Hiltunen and Liza Johnson have been chosen to receive the Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowships for 2006. Nominated by the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, the students were selected from a pool of 82 candidates submitted by Sea Grant College Programs nationwide. Selection criteria include academic performance, letters of recommendation, career interests and work and volunteer experience.

Ulanji Inc. recognized three employees at the company’s annual kickoff meeting. Named as 2005 CEO Award Winners: Cullen Cox, Rich Moretz and Sean Thomas. Manager of creative and production for Ulanji, Cox has experience in art, graphic design and working in the Internet, and has been with the company for five years. Moretz, director of business development for Ulanji, joined the company in 2005. Thomas, director of network and infrastructure and Ulanji’s chief architect, has been with the company for eight years.

Charlotte Isgette, division manager for Snelling Personnel Services, has won the 2005 Optima Award for finishing in the top five nationally among all Snelling divisions for revenue production. Isgette began her career five years ago with Snelling, helping to establish a hospitality division. She was promoted to account manager and, most recently, to division manager.

Nancy Green was named the 2005 Mortgager Lender of the Year, and Daniel Vallini was named the 2005 Mortgage Lender Associate of the Year at the annual meeting and installation of officers at the Mills House. Green has been on the board of directors and public relations chairman for the Mortgage Lenders Association of Greater Charleston from 2004–2006. Vallini is an attorney and partner with Harvey, Casterline and Vallini. He practices in the areas of mortgage banking, residential and commercial real estate, business formation and counseling and international law.

The Homewood Suites by Hilton sales department in Mount Pleasant was recognized as the 2006 Sales Team of the Year at the 2006 Brand Conference in Houston, Texas. The hotel maintained high product and service scores throughout 2005 and was also recognized for earning top ratings on its last three quality assurance inspections conducted by the company.

Timothy M. Winkler Sr., CEO and principal of Winkler Consulting Group, has been selected as a presenter at the inaugural Blueprints for Violence Prevention Initiative conference in Denver. Winkler’s talk will focus on development strategies for small nonprofit organizations. The Blueprints Initiative is a national program designed to address and disseminate scientific information on effective youth violence, delinquency and drug prevention programs to be implemented at the local community levels.

Graphic design firm Julie Frye Design and the College of Charleston received two awards given by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. The CASE District III Advancement Awards Program honored Frye and college administrators with an Award of Excellence for the College of Charleston Faculty and Staff Campaign. The creative team also received a CASE Special Merit award for the College of Charleston Fund New Donor Welcome Packet. Both of these winning entries were recently displayed at the CASE District III Conference in Nashville, Tenn.

Holly Wiegreffe of Atlantic Planning Partners has been accepted as a provisional member by the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors. Pearce W. Fleming Jr., CEO of the Summerville Medical Center, has won the Early Career Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award for 2006 from the American College of Healthcare Executives. The award is annually presented to an exceptional health care executive in South Carolina who is under 40 years old in recognition of significant contributions toward the achievement of the goals of the college and the advancement of health care management excellence.

Melissa Myhren and Casey McKown of ERA Tides Realty recently completed a program geared toward protecting historic properties. The public-private educational program is offered through a partnership between global residential real estate leader ERA Franchise Systems Inc. and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The two received a six-month membership in the NTHP and a certificate of completion.

Century 21 Properties Plus recognized Judy Gilliam as its top referral agent for 2005. Gilliam was named the 2004 Rookie of the Year, designated one of the “Top 21,” and was inducted into the 2004 and 2005 Multi-Million Dollar Club. She is also the recipient of the Top Closing Associate and Team Player awards.

Dr. Mary Anne Larkin, owner of Advanced Hearing Care, received the 2005 Leo Doerfler Award at the national conference for the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists. This national award was created in 2003 to recognize distinguished clinical services in the profession of audiology.

Susan A. Flessate, human resources manager for Vought Aircraft Industries in North Charleston, has been named the 2006 Human Resources Professional of the Year by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina State Council of the Society for Human Resources Management. Flessate was recognized at a banquet in Columbia for her leadership and professionalism in continually improving the human resources profession within her company and for her positive impact on the surrounding community.
